Hut Bagger
2023-2024
UI / UX Designer
Hut Bagger is a website where users can share information about New Zealand’s huts/shelters and researchers can collect data. The platform encourages discovery and resource sharing. I led this project as a freelance designer to redesign the website and improve the user experience.

Research
I worked closely with the founder of Hut Bagger to identify key user needs. After analyzing the data and mapping user behavior, I drafted solutions, simplified the user journey, and enhanced the UI design.

Browse on map
One of the core changes after the research was to improve the map view. Hut Bagger’s users often browse using the map, but the layout frequently overlaps or gets cropped on mobile, making it difficult to drag the map with the cards moving along.
To resolve this, I built a prototype with a sticky card, allowing users to easily drag the map and toggle between card and map views.
Top bagging
Top Bagging is a feature where users can see their rankings. To grow the community and make it more enjoyable, we are adding new feature that allows users to earn badges by completing tasks and challenges. This new feature is still in progress and is expected to be completed soon.
